Prep time: ~10 mins
Cook time: ~5 mins
Sunday for us Is family day, bakery closed we usually get out and explore a local playground or park. Apex park at West Beach was a perfect spot to head down to and meet some of the kids mates!
Kids are fussy, they eat they don’t, they eat somethings next day its something else…..
Get them to cook it they will eat it for ever!
I was at the breakfast for the FoodSA hall of fame where I met Phil ( great name) from Slape and Sons who was just inducted, incredible family business 3rd generation butcher growing their company since 1965! They had a limited edition Cheeseburger sausage which gave me the inspiration to show how else the humble snag can be utilized!
Lets make our own. You can use any sausage for this, chicken and feta, spicey Italian you name it itll make for a delicious patty!
Huge thanks to the guys at Slape and Sons for being part of the show - https://www.slapeandsons.com.au/
INGREDIENTS:
1 pack of regular sausages ( or any sausage)
Half pack of cheese kransky sausage ( or any sausage)
Cheese slices. Grab a pack or slice your own from your favroutie block of cheese.
Brioche bun or potato bun, any bread roll will also work
Beerenberg’s Tomato Sauce
INSTRUCTIONS
First of all use the sausages as little piping bags and squeeze all that sausage goodness out of their casings. I opted for the regular beef snag and their little cheese kransky snags. These are all ready seasoned, flavour is all there, I figured if we mix the two together its gonna be close to a cheeseburger flavour.
This is the perfect job to out source the messy hands to the kids, get them to squeeze the sausages then get them to mix it all together!
Once the sausage meats are all combined time to roll some balls for the patties. If I was doing this there might have a little more consistency in the shape but the kids love it and they all know which one is going to be theirs.
On the hot plate, these have just enough fat in them that you don’t need to oil the barbie!
Great time to cut your rolls. I went for a local bakery Skala’s brioche buns.
Cut the buns.
Flip the patties. Good time to get the kids to help, grab your favourite sliced cheese and place ontop of your patties. This will just melt slightly.
Sauce your buns. I had some little sauce spreaders ready to help. Beerenberg Tomato sauce is always a go to in our house, I did have some sweet pickle mustard however for the sake of the kids Ill save this one for my lunch.
Build your burgers!
Its that easy, sausage, sauce, bun and cheese. To make it even better this whole lunch to feed 5 kids and some very patient mums cost only $12.
Small hack for home, If your making these at home you can always grate some zucchini or carrot and hide in the patties if your kids are fussy vege eaters.
but a dish like this is so easy so simple and its makes the whole day an adventure at the park getting around a local aussie park barbie.
